Full Yen Tourney Report (31/3/12)

Number of participants : 8

Deck used : Ascestism Six Samurai

So since the format was non Asia I switched in my Naturia Synchros and my Roach before the tourney.

Always forgot to use them.

Round 1 vs Zhi (Machina Gadget)
OO
Game 1 - I didn't open very well. He opened average but I had enough negation to stop his first Fortress and there on he has only a Hope and 1 backrow with 2 hand card. So I just hoped that it wasn't a Warning and attempted a Shi'en play and it passed and controlled from there.

Game 2 - I opened alot better this time with 2 Cybers in my first 8 cards, but I waited it out and sure enough he had things to stop summoning so after luring them out got a +1 on Fortress and then Veiler his Trago as he tried to go for an 8 with his own Veiler.

Round 2 vs Wenliang (Hieroglyph)
XX
Game 1 - I didn't set my DEST in fear of Heavy Storm and he drew lots of yellowskins apparently and so I decided to wait one turn before setting and I then drew in to Ascestism and was WTF? If I had set it I would hav won that turn so I was like nevermind next turn, and he stunts on me and I'm like GG.

Game 2 - I opened with 5 backrow, and he opened with 4. From there I controlled cos I had the monsters and was going in for the kill and he saved himself with a Compulse. Then he Heavy Storm me next turn. And I'm like GGWTFSCOOP.

In game 2 I should hav went for Roach at one point as I can stop both the Shiyu and the REDMD if it came to that. Also in game 1 I had a chance of a comeback I had just topdrawn a mob in my 13 monster deck lol.

More to look forward to at ASC'12

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past week.

Been busy with my exams like Pohseng.

Quite shocked at my results, as I flunked my Chem, my best subject, yet got a B for my Bio, which I always had difficulty passing.

And I've been reading the Hunger Games trilogy too.

Anyway, fuck school and back to YGO.

After reading on FB today, I am more excited about ASC'12 than ever.

No, not cos I wanna scrub earlier is cos of another act of pure stupidity that our dear friend KFC aka Jay Wong and friends commited that has incurred the wrath of the community AGAIN, can't wait to see him and Chieflion roasted on a spit.

You'd think after being treated like trash on the forums, a scene which I tried really hard not to gloat over, that hooligan would hav learnt his lesson.

Clearly not.

Also, because I could not make it to be judge due to personal reasons, Lim Cheng Wee replaced me.

Oh God, why?

His idea of a Swiss is this:
2-0 : 3 point
2-1 : 2 point
1-2 : 1 point
0-2 : 0 point

Idiot.

Here's a scenario to show you how your filthy trash system that you use for your lame tournaments that to me are as good as gambling sessions is NOT Swiss.

In Swiss the rankings are based on wins.
Your filthy system looks like this:
3 win: 3 2-1s (6 points)
2 win: 2 2-0s 1 1-2 (7 points)

So you telling me the 2 win guy will rank higher than the 3 win guy. Yours is a childish point system which could be devised by a 10 year old who watches football.

If you are too lazy, or even worse, incapable of calculating a tiebreaker between like 10 people, you don't deserve to be a judge.

Can't wait for KFC next stunt to become everyone's friend. I think it's going to be better than anything we've ever seen.

SD23 boss card?

Saw this on Shriek

Direct from Translate :
Emperor Poseidon sea Wed 7-level attribute Kairyu] [effect-tribe This card can be Special Summoned By removing from play 1 monster tribe, water tribe Kairyu-finny tribe that resides on their own field. By once, and remove from play 1 monster tribe, water tribe Kairyu-finny tribe from your hand into a turn, up to the number of monsters and water tribe Kairyu-finny tribe of their own that are excluded from the game, the cards on your opponent's side of the field chosen to destroy. If this card is destroyed, you can destroy a monster body of water below the level present in three face-up on your side of the field instead. / 2600 attack power / 1800 defense force

What I gather :
Emperor Poseidon SeaWeed
WATER / Level 7
[Sea Serpant • Effect]
This card can be Special Summoned by banishing a Fish-Type, Sea Seprant-Type or Aqua-Type monster from your side of the field. Once per turn, banish 1 Fish-Type, Sea Serpant-Type or Aqua-Type monster from your hand, destroy cards your opponent controls equal to the number of banished Fish-Type, Sea Serpant-Type or Aqua-Type you have. When this card on the field were to be destroyed you can destroy one face up Level 3 or lower WATER monster instead.
ATK 2600 / DEF 1800

Looks very player made to me, can be considered quite imba, cos Trap Stun into this guy = destroy at least 2 cards, 1 for your summoning condition, 1 for your cost of activation. Has potential. Maybe a bit too much, but you never know.

Lair Wire

While watching Game 2 of the Malaysian Asia Qualifyer finals. Sam used this and I went like "dafuq?"

Lair Wire
Normal Trap Card
Remove from play 1 Insect-Type monster from your Graveyard and select 1 monster your opponent controls. Destroy the selected monster.

WTF?! Card used for spinning becomes Asia Qualifyer winning card?!?!

Well, arguably that title should go to Maxx "C" which clearly won Sam the game. I dunno if I would hav tried to burst through that Maxx "C" personally, but given that it was a final and I was already 1 down I think I would fuck all logic and go for the kill too.

Lair Wire people, be afraid.

Looking toward ASC'12

Yesterday was the Malaysian qualifyer, also the last one I think.

The representatives of each country were piloting these decks during their respective qualifyers.

Hong Kong - Dimension Laggia
Malaysia - Inzecter
Phillipines - Inzecter
South Korea - HERO Beat
Taiwan - Inzecter
Thailand - Ninja Laggia

Again, the insects are everywhere WTF, this is stupid. Representatives are allowed to change their decks but I doubt any of them other than the Korean who has to change his deck, cos he isn't allowed to use Airman or SHINING in the Asia format.

So to win you either hav to:
1. Play Inzecter
2. Play Laggia

LOL. At least with this information we can more or less figure put what to expect in Singapore.
80% Inzecter
15% Laggia varients
5% Everything else

Nah I'm exaggerating, but expect to see Inzecters everywhere, though personally I expect Rabbit Laggia to win. The type that sides Macro, not main it.

Why is everyone on Shriek dropping Demon Chain???

Looking at all the top decks now there appears to be an easily overlooked detail, that is, the dropping of Demon's Chain by many players in Japan's meta.

Other than your typical Cosmos Ragia control based decks, Demon Chain has seen a loss of play due to the emergence of Hieroglyphs. I mean, who doesn't like a DDB in their deck. Even if it IS worth $100.

Chain does pussy nuts to te tributing crap of the deck, Chain an Autums and he Chaos Exceeds. Chain a REDMD and he jus removes it for another, even Chaining the $100 Bomber still leaves you a 3000k wall to overcome.

Instead, everyone is using Rageki Break to get rid of all those pesky Inzecters. 3 Call is a problem in this case, but if the Inzecter player reslly has multiple Calls his plays would already be restricted anyways.

Also, Six Samurai have shifted to a more agressive build to combat this Hieroglyph nonsense, with 3 Dojos. Personally, I find Enishi now damn fucking imba, and 3 Dojos is just to get him out along with the Shi'en.

Laval is still doin its thing with its low trap count anyway, few even ran Demon Chain back in the day.

I considered dropping the Chainsto the sideboard, but considering the density of Inzecter players in Singapore as compared to Japan now, I feel that keeping the Chain is still a safer option, and it does help to contain the big plays that Hieroglyphs have.

Second week of March'12

OTW back from camp on a secluded island, this week only results from JCube:
Inzecter : 4
Hieroglyph : 2
Six Sam : 1
HERO: 1

Half of Top 8 made up of Inzecters ARAGHGHGH!!! But glad to see Six Sam topping again, apparently though, there was news that he was using some sort of Ascestism build, and I really dunwan to put in a 6 card engine into my deck.

The most striking thing about this week those was the emergence of Hieroglyphs in Singapore meta, 25% of the Top 8 being made by the new top deck.

Apparently the deck is starting to show all dat Tier 1 potential everyone said that had. OTK plays are actually effective against Inzecters, who, without Mantis, hav no viable way to OTK anyway.

Still, the majority of players still chose to pilot Inzecters so clearly we aren't any closer to see Hieroglyphs take over the meta the way those bugs did.

So in preparation of ASC this year, we today's results show that we should seriously consider siding all dat OTK stopping cards.

That's all I hav now, damn shag.

DON'T KNOW ANYTHING, ASK THE JUDGE

Next time, in a tournament, if you gonna get killed by something you don't even know exsists, ask the judge. It wouldn't hurt, you hav nothing to lose. Thank you.

As a player, I will play on in a disadvantaged game state had I called "game" but a judge ruled otherwise. After all, it is my mistake for not clarifying my card effect.

As a player, you scrub, you lose. After all, it is your mistake for not clarifying the effect that "killed" you.

This is how tournaments work. Let's hav no more of this whiny poohyness.

P.S I will not judge a tournament I am still playing in. Hence, I was not the judge that day, considering I won.

First week of March'12

So the first weekend of locals here in Singapore have come and gone, here's a break down of the decks that topped.

This is including the 10 player 3 round swiss tournament we had at Yew Tee today, where we cut to Top 4.

Inzector : 8
Laval : 2
Karakuri : 1
HERO : 1
Wind - Up : 1
Six Samurai : 1
Scrap Anti - Meta : 1
Machina Gadget : 1
WWBF : 1
Verz : 1

Clearly, Inzectors hav become the mainstream deck of the format which many hav expected. 2 Torrential, 3 Call, 3 Card Car D and losing essentially nothing, the dominant deck of later Sept'11 format extended its already existing lead the arguably reach Tier 0.5 status.

Interestingly enough though, the 3 locals I took into consideration, being JCube, LAS and Yew Tee, Inzector only managed 1 win, with a Top 3 share of Laval, Six Sam and Inzector at LAS and Laval taking the win at JCube.

Clearly, Laval is also a force to be reckoned with. They do not require one to commit to the field until there is enough build up, hence is effective against Inzector and causes them to stray towards the Gulf build more.

Furthurmore, the Top 8 breakdown of the previous week at Yew Tee where we used the March'12 list looked something like this.

Inzector : 2
Lightlord : 1
Chain Burn: 1
Infernity: 1
Empty Jar : 1
Offering Gadget : 1
Laval : 1

Clearly at the locals level, expected top tier decks other than Inzector are not really doing their thing. There appears to be a decline in HERO and Rabbit play. Where there used to be about the same number of HERO and Inzector decks, only one made the top cut this week, Rabbit being totally off the radar.

Another point to note is the lack of Heiroglyphs in this list, if they are as over hyped as I predicted them to be though, we still have to see.

This is still Week 1 of March'12 but it has become clear what the decks of choice in Singapore has been. The threat of Laval is smaller than Inzector though, as Inzectors are readily available, unlike Laval cards.

Furthurmore, the upcoming Asia Championships do not allow the use of Duel Terminal cards. Decks that will be scrapped off the radar for the event are predominantly HERO and Laval.

I'll see how the decklist distribution looks like next week before I make some radical move to mod my deck to counter solely Inzectors. But it won't be long before some decks start swapping their Torrentials and Bottomlesses for Chain D.
